The Moisture Meter instrument measures the moisture content of soil, indicating when it is time to water your plants. Three various zones are indicated on the top of the meter to indicate the level of moisture needed for various types of plants. Easily monitor your watering with the Panacea Moisture Meter. This handy instrument measures the moisture content of soil, indicating when it is time to water your plants. A chart on the top of the item has three zones, a dry zone for plants which require little water, like cacti or other thick leaf plants. The green zone encompasses most plants that thrive in slightly humid to humid soil, like geraniums, begonias, and azaleas. The blue zone notes that the soil is very humid, and watering should not occur at the risk of drowning your plants. To use the meter, simply insert the probe into the soil and wait a few moments. Once the needle on the dial settles, you will know whether the plant is properly watered. Monitor the water in your soil with this Moisture Meter.

Works well and I'm happy with the product. I bought this one to replace a moisture meter that I misplaced. I recall the price for this one being lower than the one I originally purchased from Sheridan Nurseries, which is great!

Never worked since day 1. I watered my plants, I inserted the meter in the soil and kept it there for an hour and it still showed "DRY". Other people may have had better luck with this item, but my experience was totally negative.I guess you get what you pay for. Stay away!!!

The moisture meter is great, but I made a mistake when I ordered. I really wanted the 3 in 1 meter so I could get more information from it.

I just received this item. Previously I had two others and I dropped on and broke the meter movement. Hence this replacement. The new device does not agree its reading with my other unit which did agree with the one I broke. This I had two meters that agreed and one, this one, that does not. The new one reads a much lower moisture reading. The reason I believe that the new meter does not agree with the old is that my previous meter(s) both had a copper tube as the probe; This one is brass. Copper is a more reactive metal that brass and will thus produce less voltage at the meter terminals than copper. Therefore a brass equipped device will read lower moisture than one with a copper tube electrode.I have tested and proved this by removing the new meter movement from the brass equipped device and soldering in into the old device with the broken meter. Both my copper equipped devices now read the same. The new brass tubed device is now in the trash along with the od broken meter movement. My recommendation is to ensure that you buy one of the devices with a copper tube electrode. Do not buy one that has a brass tube as it will give you different readings from one with a copper tube electrode. I believe the copper electrode devices since they compare wel with other more sophisticated moisture meters.Apart from that, these meters work well and give a good indication of soil moisture level when compared to other, more expensive devices.

This simple gauge worked fine for 35 days then bit the dust. i would not recommend it because of the short duration it lasted. We had a very similar item that lasted many years and thought this would to. Very disappointed!

This has been a very handy gardening tool for me, as it it provides a way to gauge soil moisture and know when plants need to be watered. It helps prevent overwatering which wastes time and water, and can cause problems for some plants. I find it particularly useful in container gardening. The device itself isn't the sturdiest, so you need to treat it carefully, but I've had mine for a few months now and it is still holding up just fine.

After 30 years of caring for houseplants, I know that the #1 killer of houseplants is TOO MUCH WATER. For my friends who always say that they kill their plants, I give this. This is that kind of single-purpose tool that has kept many a non-plant friend of mine from killing their plants. Works great. Thanks.

I received my moisture meter a few day ago, and it did not work (the needle did not move regardless of how wet he soil was). I read all of the reviews for this moisture meter, and many of the reviews for other brands of moisture meters sold by Amazon.com that use a needle to indicate moisture. As a longtime watch repairman I had the feeling that the needle was being blocked by something that should not be there. Today I looked through the viewing window with my 4x power loupe at the base of the needle, and just as I thought, the nedle was being blocked from moving by a piece of the hairspring past the point where it is soldered to the meter. This remaining piece of the hairspring was at least 1/8 of an inch long, and was holding the needle back so that it could not move. I disassembled the meter and removed the excess piece of hairspring. The needle on the moisture meter now moves freely. Now when I stick the probe in the soil the meter responds instantly. The piece of the hairspring I removed has no purpose once the hairspring is soldered in position, and should have been removed when the meter was built. I feel that this is most likely the reason why this and other moisture meters using a needle have problems. It should be obvious to everyone that something that cost $10 would be crudely made, but in defense of this meter, I have over the years worked on a number of different types of meters using needles, and all of them regardless of their cost would be considered crudely made when compaired to the quality of even a low grade mechanical watch.

As a master gardener, I am always on the lookout for products that maximize gardening success at an accessible price point for most. Since over-watering is one of the most common problems we see and one of the most lethal to plants, as well as one of the most wasteful practices for the environment, it really is necessary to water the roots to the correct moisture level at the appropriate frequency. There are too many factors that influence this to provide pat answers about how much and how often- it just must be checked. Using a meter definitely beats sticking your finger down a few inches and divining the moisture level. Most people I have come in contact with won't do that anyway. This inexpensive tool works, as long as you know what moisture level your plant needs, ie, begonias moist, succulents dry, etc. Some of the pricier models are digital and allow selecting a plant species from an integral menu to provide this information, but for the money ($7.63, Amazon Prime eligible), I think this is the ticket. Note: It is made in China, but so are many of the more expensive ones. Alas.

Well I based my purchase upon the previous 8 reviews, all of which seemed to be from happy customers. So based on the feedback, I went ahead and purchased this meter for my in-house plant. And I hate to say it, but you get what you pay for! After 2 attempts of watering my plant with the meter correctly inserted to the root level in the potting soil, I have yet to see the indicator move from "dry." I even placed the meter under running water and....nothing. Don't bother with this one...spend the few extra dollars for a product that actually functions as advertised!

This product is for checking the moisture of the soil around any given plant. The meter works very well and I have owned a number of them. My only problem with the meter is that they only last about 3 yearly. I have searched for another moisture meter and not found any that work as well and are priced as good so I just buy another when the one I have quits working. I do feel that this meter is excellant for the ease of use and price. Bob
