MUST have 12V supply!!! If your car has a resistor wire (Ford) or a ballast resistor on the fire wall, you MUST use a relay to supply 12V. TECH TIP: use the resistorelay (ignition ON) as the trigger for the realy. The relay switches battery voltage to the Ignitor III and the coil. The Igmitor III will fail if it does not have 12V.

I installed this Ignitor 3 module into a GM points distributor (SBC) along with the Flamethrower 3 coil. Install is super easy, I did it with the distributor removed from engine not really necessary. Once reinstalled I had difficult getting the engine to start and run. I advanced the distributor a lot until it would finally run decent, I thought it odd to have to move the distributor that much. When I put my timing light on it I got a reading of 59 deg BTDC initial timing!!! No vacuum advance was hooked up yet. When I tried to retard the timing back to normal the engine wouldn't run at all. I rechecked all my connections, plug wires, power and ground, ect. I checked the timing with two other timing lights, one being a basic unit (not a dial back type) and all lights read the same 59 deg, have tape on balancer to confirm. This engine ran great previously with an HEI distributor but that larger unit will not fit in a tri five Chevy due to the firewall. I decided to install an MSD Pro Billet distributor and coil. Engine now runs and times as normal. Something with the Ignitor 3 was causing this problem, just beware.

These work really well to allow you to keep your old distributor and cap. I was able to even reuse my existing coil. A lot of people say these things are no good but most of the time (in my experience) it’s a car wiring issue that causes these to fail prematurely.

This product has performed outstanding! I bought the generation III product so I wouldn't have to pull the distributor on my 1966 Impala 283 engine. The installation couldn't have been easier and the car fired right up and has been running great for several weeks now. It is well worth the money to get rid of points and condenser but retain the stock appearance with the original distributor cap. I also installed Pertronix high energy coil. If you use a high energy coil you need this generation III solid state ignition unit because some will burn out if you remove the stock high resistance wire from the ignition (or the resistor if equipped) that the high energy coils prefer. This Pertronix III handles the higher energy performance coils. Excellent solution for those who see no need to convert to HEI!

I installed this on a 62 gm distributor and it worked great, i did not have to mess with a ring that sits under the rotor like other kits. This unit reads right off the cam that the points ride on so nothing else to install. i did get their suggested coil, and wired it for 12v because the stock wire only allows for 9v by design

After my Ignitor 2 failed after 14 good years of service (fried after boosting too many times from tired starter), I installed Ignitor 3 & matching Flamethrower 3 coil.1974 Olds Delta 88 Royale Conv has never run smoother or had as much zip!

This is a quality product and is working great. It was very easy to install with the provided instructions. I had an original Crane Cams points replacement kit installed in my 1966 Corvette when I got it but I wanted something that was newer technology and created a better spark than my original points conversion. The engine fired right up after making the swap. I also purchased with this the Pertronix Fireball III coil to go with it. Recommend this product to anyone with a Delco Remy points distributor. I did end up removing my distributor for easier installation access but this might not be 100% necessary.

Excellent quality and an easy install. They could have gone a little further with the instruction, but if you're installing one of these, you should already have a good idea about what you're doing. I installed this on a 69 SS396 Camaro so I could keep a stock looking distributor and also have a rev limiter and not have to screw around with setting points and replacing points ever. You will have to run a relay. I ran a nice neat wire up from my starter's main lug to the relay and triggered it off my original resistor wire. DO NOT USE THE RESISTOR WIRE THAT COMES FACTORY on some older cars as the primary power. Verify it will always have a steady 12v when the key is on. Be careful with installing the relay and verify the pin out. The one I bought had the white wire as a ground and the black wire was the 12v trigger... The directions had that reversed which is what it should have been. The car ran like it had 3 plug wires unplugged. I was surprised it ran at all. Once I figured it out and reversed the wires it ran great. The hardest part for me was finding a good ground location without drilling an extra hole in my firewall. I want to hide the relay and extra wiring better. I've already run it for about 400 miles.

My classic muscle car had an MSD billet distributor and 6AL ignition box in it that I wasn't happy with. I purchased an auto parts store rebuilt points style distributor, added a Mr Gasket shim kit to eliminate the excessive shaft end play and then purchased and installed thisPertronix 71181 Ignitor III ignition module along with the Pertronix 44011 Flame-Thrower III Black 45,000 volt ignition coil. Installation of the ignition module was straight forward and the rpm rev limiter is a great feature along with the multi-spark feature all the way from idle to 10,000 rpm's. Engine starts and performs better than the MSD setup and now looks like an original stock points ignition system.

I installed this on my 1957 Buick Century (combined with a Pertronix Flame-Trower III). I was having an rough idling issue, and always had to keep my engine revved up a little at red lights for the fear of my engine stalling. It took me under an hour to install, and immediately I noticed a difference. The engine idled smoother, and I noticed my gas mileage go up about 1-2 MPG. And the engine ran smooth through the whole RPM range. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a clean stock look.
