Ignore all the other reviews, this is an incredibly useful tool to have a warm tone in the notes below a low D. The title is misleading, it's not a mute, it's used to apply backpressure on the lower notes and lessen the bell's vibration.I would rate 5 starts considering how effective it is at what it's supposed to do, but the description and title says it's a mute.

Having a newborn, I was really excited to have this. I am a brass player, so I'm not exactly proficient enough on the sax to control my dynamics and intonation at the same time.This did NOTHING discernible to my volume. If anything, I noticed that it made the sound a little more hollow, but without dropping how loud it is, changing the quality of my sound isn't helpful.

This makes virtually no measurable difference in the volume of the saxophone. I did, however, notice some negative affects on intonation in low notes. Avoid.
