These cable converters are completely useless. You would need a special card that can utilize a firewire connection for your computer or an adapter device that can translate to digital. I ended up using a Video Converter device which is also available on Amazon and it worked for my intended purposes on a consumer level.

Bought this specifically to use in transferring videos from my Sony Handycam to my PC. The PC does not recognize that anything is attached when I connect the camera to it. Rebooting it does no good. Save your money.

It was too good to be true. Definitely doesn’t work at all, but I was really hoping it would. Now I need to buy a long chain of expensive adapters to get my mini dv camera to register on my computer.
