So I have to approach this as two separate items, at the core of it.On one hand, it's a cute little decoration piece that is let down somewhat by the fact that it just looks a bit too.... well... made by a machine. It has that dirty bronzed look that you expect to see in old vintage, but it combines that with being just a bit too shiny and a bit too manufactured, so it looks very much out of place, both in time itself and on the shelf, like it's trying to be from two different eras and not really managing either one. That said, decoration is entirely subjective, so maybe this will work well for what you want.On the other, it is built like a maritime telescope, and in a surprising twist, it actually fulfills that role surprisingly well. The movement action is extremely smooth, and while the optics aren't quite calibrated to be used at full extension, pushing the scope in slightly fixes that fault, and gives a relatively crisp-ish image at a pretty good range. You won't be reading someone's Kindle from a mile away with it, but I was able to get some pretty solid detail on some trees that are pretty far away from my window. Also the balance and the means to hold the scope are built well, meaning it doesn't shake too badly, something modern optics could learn from.In either case, it feels weighty, but not wildly overweight, and for a silly little shelf ornament, I was surprised it worked well.

This is purely a decorative item and does not have 20X zoom function despite what the 'compare to similar items' states. I played around with this for a few days and nights and there is no zoom whatsoever, just a blurry picture at best that does magnify things a tiny bit, but just for a dozen feet or so (from my back porch to my bird feeder about a dozen feet away in my yard and I can't even focus on the birds any better than my eyes can, really). It doesn't function as a telescope or spyglass.As a decorative item, this thing is cute. It would please a child who wants to play pirate or sea captain. It has some weight to it. The box it comes in is plastic and creaky and in no way looks like leather or vinyl; poor quality and a disappointment as one would have to find another way to display this if that was their desire. A wooden stand maybe? All in all a bit of a disappointment for what I wanted but if you just wanted a tchotchke this is great, minus the 'gift box'.

This “telescope” is a beautifully crafted art piece—not a functional telescope. While it doesn’t actually zoom or focus, the detailed carvings on the metal and its solid, heavy feel give it a true vintage charm. It makes a great decorative accent for a bookshelf or study, but it’s not suitable as a toy or for actual viewing use. Definitely more for display than play

This Vintage Spyglass Telescope by ALADEAN is a pretty nice spyglass telescope that is probably more decorative than functional. The quality is pretty good and the finish is very smooth and shiny. The telescope does have a leather binding on one of the telescope rings and the finish has a gunmetal and antique look. The telescope action pulls out and in smoothly and the lenses can be rotated. It's a bit hard to get it to focus clearly, but you can finesse the length of the telescope a bit to get a clearer image further away. The telescope comes with a nice case with blue velvet lining. The metal of the telescope also has some cool engraving. Definitely looks like a pirate or ship captain spyglass telescope. Great for roleplay, as a decorative piece, or just as a gift.

I read other reviews and was shocked anyone would buy this for anything other than a decorative piece. And for decoration alone i give it 5 stars. I'd give it 6 if I could because it is better than expected. It comes in a nice box that can also be decorative on the low end. But the telescope is great. It's weighty not plastic. Every part of it is decorative or etched in some way. Yes it's made to look old by a machine and that's what I expected, but I wasn't expecting so much detail to it. The inscriptions are beautiful. The faux leather is pressed and has depth to the pattern. I would not let my child run around and play pirate with this beautiful piece unless supervised. It's not a child's toy quality. It's adult with a pinash for piratesque things quality. Definitely a novelty piece. Heck I never even checked to see the zoom quality. Short of the zombie apocalypse I'm not sure I'll ever need use for it in practical application. Maybe looking into my forested lot for that Big Foot I keep hearing roam these lands, but otherwise I'm not using it for anything other than a fun piece on my eclectic steampunk shelf.

I am truly impressed with my Vintage Spyglass Decorative Telescope.The workmanship quality is amazing. It shows great attention to detail and uses high-quality materials throughout. It is a piece anyone would be proud to display.I have read the reviews, which state that this Vintage Spyglass Decorative Telescope is not functional, and that is what I was expecting. I am a retired photographer and filmmaker, and know a good lens when I use it, and to my surprise, this lens was actually very good. The focus was simple and worked very well.At a sale price this Vintage Spyglass Decorative Telescope is an incredible deal and still good value at its list price of $50.

Excellent packaging and presentation. The item was snug and secure. Onto my thoughts. I couldn't be happier with it. Zoom is Excellent, it's got good weight, you can tell care was put into crafting this. Will be carrying this to Ren Faire's for years to come
