I actually got this pasta machine to use for my white polymer clay so it stays clean. Yeah it's kinda bulky b/c the cutting pieces are a permanent piece of the roller, but honestly it's no big deal. I will keep this one put up when I'm not using it. It does what it's meant to do - roll "dough" (clay). It does leave some ridges, but it's no biggie. The handle seems to go pretty easily and the thickness marker moves around only in one direction. I'm sure it will be fine to use as intended for pasta as well. It works for what I needed it for, so I'm happy.

I own a couple of pasta maker attachments for my kitchen aid stand mixer, so I'm fairly practiced at making flat pasta (ravioli and lasagna) and noodles. This pasta maker is an excellent upgrade to those attachments because:- it's a stand-alone, and doesn't require me to pull out my stand mixer- it's much wider and allows for wider and more pasta to be produced in less time- the wider size means less likelihood of pasta being squeezed outside of the edges of the hopper and presses, reducing mess- it's slightly less noisey- it has an extra gear compared to the attachment versions- it has variable noodle sizing, making both round and flat noodles of varying sizes (the attachment versions typically only have 2 sizes)However, there are some things I missed about using a stand mixer version:- it's lower to the counter, so you have to act quickly and ensure that there's no dough pileup- it's only one-speed, and I've found that some degree of control over the rate of flow is useful when making different kinds of pasta/working with different kinds of doughThat being said, this pasta maker is first off, beautiful. The candy apple red housing is very cool-looking, evoking gorgeous Italian kitchen devices. The details and design are very old-school and the materials are solid, well-made, and the machine looks and feels very high-end.It works very well, and I had a lot of fun and success using it.Cleanup is always a bit of a pain with these things, but like with a fine espresso machine, you just have to be on your cleaning game.
