I did a repair on the railing of my front porch with this welder and it did indeed fuse metal together, as other reviewers have mentioned the ground is the thinnest material they could have possibly used , the handle bent as I was squeezing the jaws open...I plan on buying a replacement ground clamp at hobo fart to remedy that issue , all in all this is not a professional grade welder that will be used day in and day out for 40 hours a week but for small projects around the house it should fit the bill .

I am not a welder. I have no experience welding. I got this for light touchup jobs for stuff like repairing garden tools, utility trailer joints, t-posts, etc. For a beginners welder for very basic repairs, I’m happy with the size and weight and compact design because I can actually store it without it being in the way. I had to look up a few videos, like you would with any new endeavor, but I think for the price, it’s a very good option for anyone looking to do basic repairs without breaking the bank. Much more affordable than any entry level options I could find in town. Build quality is decent for the price. Overall, very good considering the price point.

Is this a great welder? NoThen why did I rate it 5 stars? Because it is the perfect welder for specific applications. I got this to keep in the tool box on my truck for when I'm out at deer camp and need to tack or spot weld something. It runs off the generator we have out there just fine. Since then it also saved me when I had a malfuction on my manure spreader in the field and I was able to throw a generator in the back of my truck and tack weld the broken hub enough to limp the spreader back to the barn. I did have to use our MIG welder to actually fix the hub but hey at least I didn't have to schlep it out to the field or take the spreader apart. It's incredibly light weight, very portable and has been a huge boon for our off grid camp. It will not replace our other welders. I could see this be very useful for someone interested in making junk sculptures as a hobby. It CAN do fairly large welds on mild steel but you have to go SO SLOW it is tedious. It's going to be a great learning tool for our boys as they get older. And honestly you can't beat the price.

Sooo, I have to start this review by saying that I really did NOT expect much from this machine. BUT, I was completely wrong! Can you weld together a ship with it, NO. But this little arc welder has definitely won me over for little projects - little being the operative word. The unit comes with several accessories. These include: a cable set although both are shorter than most would be comfortable with. The description states 5' ground and 6' electrode holder lines. So I can't subtract any stars for the length. There are also five electrodes that appear to be 1/16 - 3/32 6011 or 6013s. A pretty useless slag hammer/brush and shoulder strap for hauling this unit around. At just 4 lbs and only ~4 x 8 x 6"h this unit is very easy to carry around. I can't find anything that states what the duty cycle is, but while I was test welding I believe it is probably around 60%. Performance is really good for a welder at this price point (~$50)! I needed to weld another chain hook on my tractor's bucket. I previously welded one on the bucket with my mig. I grabbed my 7018 rods along with this unit and went to the shop where the tractor was. The first thing I noticed, beside the length of the cables, was how horrible the ground clamp is. Very flimsy with very little clamping force. I actually had a hard time getting a good enough ground to weld. I funally cut off the clamp and crimped on a ring terminal that I attached to the bucket.I was very surprised that I could get good penetration at 175A. I needed to go much slower than I would normally go, but for this price, I really didn't mind. I believe I found the high end of thickness this little unit is comfortable with. I decided to try welding some schedule 40, 3" Black iron pipe (~0.22" thick) - I use this for fence corners and supports. I ground angled gullies as I normally would do when I use my gas powered welder. Although it did take significantly longer to puddle these corners, the little guy actually made some decent welds with good penetration.Bottom line, is this a good welder? Yes I believe it is, for smaller jobs. Does it weld as good as larger name brand welders that can cost 5-10x more? Absolutely NOT! BUT, it should work fine for most lightweight DIY jobs. I would suggest that you replace the leads with longer ones and get a real ground clamp.Would I buy this knowing what I now know? Yes I believe I wouldHope this helps!

I’ve been thoroughly impressed with this little machine. Right out of the box, it was easy to set up and start using with minimal effort. The digital display is clear and responsive, which is great for someone like me who’s still getting comfortable with amperage adjustments and settings. Having the USB ports for charging accessories while working is a surprisingly handy bonus. The welding performance is excellent for a machine in this price range. I used 6011 and 7018 rods on mild steel, and it laid down clean, consistent beads with very little spatter. The hot start feature works just as advertised, and the arc is stable and easy to manage. It doesn’t bog down under load, and the compact size makes it a breeze to transport between projects. It’s lightweight, but it doesn’t feel cheap. The safety features are a big plus—especially the overheat and overcurrent protection. Whether you’re a hobbyist, weekend DIYer, or even a pro needing a mobile backup, this unit punches way above its weight class. For under fifty bucks, it’s one of the best shop investments I’ve made this year.
