Been using this drive for a few weeks and it is a pretty good drive and rips DVDs and Blu-Rays. You will require software (check online for options) to run it whether that is playing or ripping but there are some options out there to try - using in a older iMac and also the newer 2021 M1 iMac and works well in both - only issue I find is that sometimes when you unplug it (which I do not usually do often) it may take a couple attempts to get the drive to show up but besides that it seems reliable. Only issue can be the 2 slots it takes up to connect the drive to your Mac as in newer units there can be less or need to use a adapter/dongle. Also like the option of standing the drive up or laying flat - nice feature for different set ups.Only wish the drive was bit less - maybe around $100 - other than that it is worth picking up.

This was a little tricky getting the system to recognize the hardware. I had to rip the installation disk that came with it to a USB drive and direct the system to install the driver from that file & I had to install a patch of some kind that came on the disk as well. After that it’s been pretty reliable. I’ve played blu rays & DVD’s from several regions without issue. I use the Leawo Blu Ray player software (Free) on Windows 10 system for Blu ray discs, & both USB lines are connected to USB 3.0 ports. I had to use an old laptop to copy the installation CD to USB. Probably not the best product for someone not tech savvy. I had googled the issue of the system not recognizing the hardware & there was no remedy I could find. Can’t load a CD onto a computer if the drive isn’t recognized & there’s no other CD-rom capable drive. The software couldn’t be found on ASUS website either but not sure if it’s changed since I bought this in 2017. If you have the same issue, try what I tried. If you are not tech savvy, find someone who is and see if they can help :-)

Bought this in April of 2013. At the time my PC (new at the time) had windows 8. It was plug and play. No issues what so ever and it complimented my ASUS ET2701 PC.I continued to use the drive thru the Windows 8.1 update and now the same PC has been updated to Windows 10. (Actually I have a dual boot with Windows 8.1 and 10) I still have no issues what so ever and it has NEVER burned a coaster. I've lost the original dual USB cable, but Have no issues ever with a decent cable I have.I am updating my PC and since my ASUS only has a BD ROM/ DVD Burner, I was looking into what it would take to install this drive in place of the one that came with my PC. So I carefully opened it up to see what drive is in mine. The unit I have has a PANASONIC UJ260 drive.I will am considering a second one of these (hack my old one and install it in PC) and keep the new one for portable duty. My other thought is to buy a Panasonic UJ260 drive. In the last two years, there does not seem to be a lot of headway in optical drive performance, so this drive is still relevant.Highly recommend, but be warned your mileage may vary, I believe this is due to software and PC configurations more than anything else. This hardware is solid.

I first ordered the PC CD ASUS writer. However when I place that order I thought I read somewhere that it would also work with Mac. I like what I read so I ordered. When I got it....it would not work. I could not make anything work. So I called the manufacturer explain to them what happened and they instructed me as to which OF their products would work. So I ask for a refund on the PC model from Amazon, and was granted the return. In that same call I ordered the new model. What impresses me is that within two days I had product in hand. It was a plug and with no need to purchase special software and is working great. One of the biggest advantages is that Amazon has stood by every return that was necessary to return regardless my issues. They completely want to make sure that I've been satisfied. I like that. They waste no time shipping back out. I like that, I will always check Amazon first before I place orders so that my order be placed with them first. I give Amazon 5 STARS. 4 stars with ASUS only because I have not had it long enough to have the perfect score.

I have a mid-2007 iMac with 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor running Mac OS X 10.7.3. My internal superdrive died, so I decided to take the plunge and get a Blu-Ray writer. Since I don't do a whole lot of burning, I purchased the ASUS Blu-Ray writer (SBW-06D2X-U) mostly based on price. I also bought the Verbatim 97344 25 GB 6x Blu-ray Single-Layer Recordable Disc BD-R LTH (Low to High), 20-Disc Spindle. They worked perfectly. I simply plugged in the Blu-Ray writer, inserted a blank Blu-Ray disc, and burned with Toast 11 for Mac. I did not bother to even see what was on the CD-ROM that came with the drive, so I don't know if the included software is Windows only or if there is also a Mac version, but in any case I did not need it. It comes with a cable that has 1 mini USB connector on one end that plugs into the Blu-Ray writer and 2 USB connectors on the other end that plug into your computer--I presume this is because the device needs to draw enough current, but the upside is that there is no power cord to hassle with, so as long as you can spare 2 USB ports (or don't mind exchanging peripherals), this is great! Note that the USB cord is only 18 inches long, so if you plan to place the burner farther from your computer, you may need to buy 2 USB cables each with a female and male end. I saw some other reviews for other products where the buyers stated problems with the Low to High Verbatim discs with Blu-Ray writers, but they seem to work OK for me and my current setup. Note that I have only burned 1 Blu-Ray data disc so far, and if I experience problems, I will update my review. The device comes with a goofy stand which you don't have to use, as it comes with a rubber padding so you can lay it down on a desk. Bottom line: I am happy with this product and would recommend it to others.
