When I bought this, I thought I would get only a replacement spool. Instead, in addition to the spool, I also received a new cap and spring.The only reason I have not rated this 5 stars is that I haven't needed to use it yet, so I can't tell how well this fits or works.

When I installed the spool in my trimmer, I removed the tape holding it in place. The spool unraveled. This was the only problem I had. Otherwise it is perfect.

I’ve bought 2 of these spindles over the past 2 summers. The Spring and Summer season is about 6 months out of the year here. Replacing just one each season is easy enough and it doesn’t break the bank. Some reviewers claim the line doesn’t last more than a month but that all comes down to what you’re trimming. Your basic lawn grass is easy enough to cut through but this stuff isn’t made for the thick stuff. It will cut it but you’ll be going through a lot of line. I use this mostly for trimming the tall grass around trees and lamp posts as well as making a nice edge along the sidewalk and driveway. I see fancier trimmers using thicker line all around my neighborhood. I also see a lot of cedar fences chewed up along the bottom. It’s easy to make this stuff last if you know what you’re doing.

These pre-wound spindles are perfect for the inexpensive, lightweight B&D electric trimmer we purchased for occasional use at our condo. They are a simple and straightforward replacement and make the process very easy for the occasional user. The line is very lightweight and tends to break easily, so you go through a lot of line when you're trimming. There's only 20 feet per spindle, so you'll find yourself replacing these spindles often. The trimmer originally cost me $30, but I find that these spindles are nearly $8 each at most places, which means that unless there's a good reason to pick up such a lightweight trimmer, you're probably better off buying something heavier that uses a heavier line and is more cost effective to use in the long term. Since the object of buying these string "cassettes" is to simplify the process, it would also be helpful if there was a way to maintain the tension on the line in the spool during the installation process... like most, if you're not extremely careful, the line will slip and unravel, making it difficult to insert it properly into the trimmer.

we do a lot of edging around our gardens, driveway and street. Seems like we run through these things rather rapidly so I buy them whenever I see the supply running low. this year I was a little slow in ordering but they arrived a little early and we never had to "rewind" a spool because we had a god supply of spools on hand. we will definitely order form this vendor in the future as they seem to have the lowest price we could find.

I love my Black & Decker trimmer- it's a trimmer that I can finally use without straining my back. At 5'2", most trimmers, even the adjustable ones, are just way too long. This one is perfect, and the replacement spool goes on very easily. I've fought with some other trimmers when trying to replace the spool. For this one, the cover pops off (every once in a while I have to use a screw-driver to loosen it), the old trimmer comes out, and you put the new one in (after removing the tape cover). The complete directions are on the packaging, and it has worked everytime! Quality product.

I bought this spool as a replacement spool for one that had literally worn through from bumping so much to adjust the string. Unfortunately, my bump string trimmer gave up the ghost shortly after I received this new spool via Amazon. I bought a new auto feed string trimmer to replace my fried bump trimmer and now I'm left with an unusable spool. I will say that I kept two of these spools on hand for quick change outs when I would run out of line in the middle of a trimming session and they all worked very well. The spools themselves will last about three seasons or more depending on how much trimming you perform each season, and I do a lot of trimming. I guess I'll hold onto this new one and try to sell it spring 2015 via Amazon Market Place.
