This is a review for the Coco Platinum Premium Hardwood Lump Charcoal – 100% Natural BBQ Fuel for Grilling 45LB.Submitted May 2025We could tell this was charcoal by the soot covering every square inch of the shipping box interior as well as the entire product itself. The packaging effort was .... lackluster and imperfect to put it mildly.The stuff burns, as it is, as noted above, and in the product listing, charcoal. The temperature of the burn is decent. The length of the burn is decent. The aroma is of something similar to post oak, although we dont think ot is made from post oak. It concerns us that that there is no mention of which wood type we have here; no such content claims are provided by the manufacturer. The burn didn't produce black sooty acrid smoke, so we think it safe to rule out oily wood such as cedar or pine. Still, it is surprising that this brand did not see fit to alert the consumer as to the type of "hardwood" that is used to create this product.To sum up. This "hardwood charcoal" product is probably composed of hardwood. We are disturbed that we dont know what types of wood enter into the equasion.This is a three star deal because it handles pretty well. To achieve a higher rating, the vendor needs to be more descriptive as to what tyoe of wood enters into the finished charcoal product.Three Stars here.

The pieces are medium to large (with a few smaller ones) and they burn hot and steady. My only issue with this was that the package was damaged during delivery and it was a mess trying to transfer the coals from the damaged container to a bucket.

It works okay, burns pretty long, and not too hard to get started. I intended to use it for smoking, but it doesn't list the tree that is used to create the charcoal, just lists it as "hardwood". A little more specificity would be nice. I'll likely just use it for charcoal cooking rather than smoking, although I may try a little bit to check for flavor.

As far as charcoal goes, it does burn and it is reasonably hot. My main concern with this is that like others, the box was absolutely covered in coal dust. When I brought the box into the house the dust came out of the box and got my floor dirty which is obviously not ideal. As far as the coal itself goes, this seems to be more of a type that would be used for forging metal as opposed to grilling with it. There is no indication as to the specific type of hardwood that it is so I plan to just use it for general grilling. The pieces of coal are a good mix of big and small pieces without too many tiny ones.

Nice lump charcoal that burns super hot. Pretty good sized bag that it arrived in and the box was heavy and bulky. Plenty to last for at least a season!

I've spent many years, (and may dollars) grilling foods outdoors over charcoal. I usually get briquets, but had heard so much good about lump style charcoal. First, when you place this on the grate, it falls together better, making for a 'denser' flame and heat source. As a result, it burns hotter when given plenty of ventilation. The manufacturing process must leave a little more of the resins behind because it does burn longer than production briquets. Now, I use less weight for each cooking session. It's more expensive, but well worth it!

This “Coco Platinum Premium Hardwood Lump Charcoal – 100% Natural BBQ Fuel for Grilling 45LB” seems to be good quality foreign lump charcoal that is produced in Indonesia. There is no mention of what kind of wood it is from, but it seems to burn fairly well. It starts fairly easy too, they are not too dense, and they are pretty dried and well prepared. For 45lbs of lump charcoal, these are not a bad price. I believed that the shipping do break the charcoal quite a bit unfortunately, but there is probably nothing anyone can do. They already helped by applying an additional bagging outside of their original packaging, yet, getting the product out is still a chore, as it is messy with charcoal dust like everywhere.Thank you for reading this review, I hope that this review & the pictures are helpful to you in support of your purchase decision.
