Classic Bamboo Steamer

A bamboo steamer is designed to sit over another pot containing boiling water. As the water boils, the steam enters the steamer through the open slats in the bottom and is contained in the steamer by the lid. The bamboo steamer absorbs any condensation, keeping water from dripping back onto the food. When heated, it forms a hot container and, with the cover in place, can keep food warm for up to half an hour. The bamboo steamer is also an attractive serving piece and may be brought right to the table. Foods that are steamed require little or no added oils or fats, and they retain vitamins and minerals and cook quickly and evenly.

Tips for steaming:
When steaming dry foods such as breads, buns and dim sum, line the bottom of the steamer tier with parchment paper or cabbage leaves to prevent sticking. 7" or 9" parchment rounds do the job easily. However, for foods that are seasoned such as seafood, meats and tofu, steam them in a heat-proof shallow dish to catch the flavorful and nutritious juices.

Caring for Your Bamboo Steamer:
Before using for the first time, rinse the bamboo steamer and lid with cold water. After each use, wash steamer with hot water and a brush, if necessary. Do not use soaps or detergents — bamboo may absorb fragrance and impart unwanted flavors to foods. Allow steamer to thoroughly air dry before storing in a well-ventilated place.

Bau buns fit in ok. Slats are a bit narrow so if you use the supplied paper sheets, there is limited flow for steam.

Just the right size for steaming in a smaller wok. Appears to be well-made, but of course time will tell. The papers are a nice addition.

The price is fair due to free steam paper and chopsticks, so I purchase this item. However, the steam paper is sticky, I mean the food will stick together with steam paper. I don’t think the steam paper is real steam paper.it’s very bad. I think they should take out the steam paper.

I've steamed dumpling a few times so far, and they were delicious.The first time I used the included Liners, and it was pretty disastrous. The wrappers stuck to the dumplings and the only way to get them off was to mutilate my cute dumplings.The second time I used cabbage leaves instead of the Liners and the dumplings turned out perfect. I've used only cabbage leaves since then.Also, some reviewers mentioned that the Steamer imparts a weird taste to their food. Neither me nor the people I served the food to have noticed anything.

Build quality is decent. Easy to modify (not responsible if you mess up, lol) Anyway, inner height has always been an issue with these. I took the slats out of one level and set aside for later use. There is an inner band/lip that is used to help seal the lid. Remove this only after finding the two, almost invisible, tiny tiny little dowels. You can push em out with a toothpick or something like that. Then the band lifts up. Clip the two twisty tie things on the outside and pull them out however you can. Then gently separate the bamboo and slide out the slats. then put back together. Re insert the band/lip thing and line up the holes and put those mini dowel things back in. The whole reason to do this is be able to set in a ceramic bowl or whatever for steaming. Works like a charm for my steamed pork belly with ginger and green onions and shoyu. No mess either. The extra liners are great for manapua or anything else you don't want sticking.
