This adaptor does what I expect in going from a L14-30 plug to others. Just realize that the 2 main prongs of the cord you plug into this will be carrying 240V power (as the source of power is a 240V). If you put a cord for 120V power in this (that will physically fit) and put 240V power to your fridge or such (expecting just 120V), you'll burn out the motor on the fridge or such causing major problems. So be careful and ask others if you have doubts before you plug in anything. As a hint, most 240V cords have one or both prongs "horizontal" as you look at the plug, if both prongs are "vertical" it's likely for 120V (see picture for examples).Another note, the ground goes thru to the ground with the N from the L14-30 going to nothing. So not sure if you can split the 240V into 120V with other connections downstream as you only have the ground for any unbalance in the two "hots". I realize the L14 outlet isn't GFI, but you normally shouldn't have currents on a ground wire.

This fits my generator and lets me plug a multi-outlet extension cord into it. That makes it easier to run multiple appliances from my generator in an emergency.
