Ok Ill start with I was quite excited to see a small compact flash, yes it does remind me of a light saber as well, released by Godox. I shoot a lot of small intimate weddings either in a courthouse, beach condo, home, etc. and I got tired of holding a speedlite with my Gary Fong on it. Just felt too bulky. I’m moving around and prefer holding my flash up in my hand than setting it on a stand since I’m shooting in small spaces/rooms.Bought this guy with the intent of using it in those scenarios and boy was I glad I got it! It has made my small JP weddings much easier to deal with! The grip is great and comfy in my hand, doesn’t weigh a lot and easy to control with the X3.I don’t use the reflector dish much, myself, as I prefer the soft light from the dome (when bouncing light) or the softbox. I bought the 2 diffusers and my last two photos show how well and soft the light is. The cake shot was taken with the dome on it while the shot of the couple was taken with the softbox. The dome diffuser! Let me start by saying that although I need the dome diffuser for bouncing light, it is such a pain in the rear to mount! WTH? Godox! lol! I hate mounting and removing it bcuz it feels like I’m going to break the dang bulb! Ugh! It works great though. Now on to the softbox. I absolutely love using softboxes and I know some people struggle with mounting the softbox on but I found that if you’re mounting the softbox on after you’ve opened it and set it up, you WILL STRUGGLE! Mount it on before opening it up then set it up after mounted. Sooooo much easier! Slides right into the mounting bracket and locks in so smoothly. Just a tip for you all with this problem.Anyway, the price, eh… I feel it is pricy. Considering it’s the same price as an AD200 or a V1, this isn’t something you want to consider as your first flash. If you have an arsenal already, it doesn’t hurt to own this little light saber of a flash. It’s fun, compact and very easy to hold and setup. The AD200 Pro bracket mounts right onto this little guy so you can set it up on and stand and have fun with it.Thanks for taking the time to read my review and hopefully this helps others!

I love this flash! You must have a remote release to use it but it is much easier to handhold than the V1 and can use an optional mini octobox. Plenty of power and easy to get great flash photos without that on camera flash look.

I am a novice when it comes to flash photography, even though photography has been a hobby of mine for many years. So I cannot say that I can give an expert review of the GODOX Lux Master Retro Camera Flash. I can say that the flash unit is reasonably easy for a beginner to use. I read through the instructions and then looked up some tutorials online before trying the flash. The flash unit is easy to set up. I attached the reflector, extended the bulb, and attached both the flash and my camera to the base plate. I had previously gotten a Godox x3 flash trigger, so I attached it to the camera and used the wireless sync, which is as easy as pushing a button. I was then ready to try the flash. I took a number of practice shots and actually found this unit easier for a beginner to understand and use than a less expensive speed lite type flash I tried recently that has far fewer capabilities. The three attached photos were taken with the same ambient light with three different flash power settings after only a few minutes of practice. The flash has many features and functions that I have not even begun to explore at this point, and I will leave it to more experienced reviewers to discuss them. The unit is well constructed and comes with everything one would need to use it, aside from the flash trigger. I like that it has a high capacity rechargeable battery and can be used with different optional reflectors. I also like the nice storage bag, although I wish it had separate sections for the flash unit and base plate as I can see the flash unit getting scratched from being stored with the base plate. The GODOX Lux Master Retro Camera Flash is a very good flash unit, one that a beginner can use easily and which has many advanced capabilities I look forward to learning. I give it five stars for quality and ease of use.

Godox Lux Master Retro Flash UnitI have to admit that I was a bit apprehensive when I saw this flash called “retro”, thinking it might just be an inferior flash sold more for its styling than its performance. However, I have owned several Godox speedlights in the past and thought it was worth a chance as I sometimes prefer a separate flash unit. The box contains the Flash Unit, a sync cord, a USB C to A Cable for charging, the retro style reflector dish, a mounting bracket, and a carrying pouch. The flash unit is stated to have several advanced features such as TTL and 2.4GHz wireless connectivity, but a wireless adapter, not included, is needed for this. The unit is made of a sturdy plastic, with relatively simple controls--3 buttons, a wheel, and a touch screen. The reflector is easily attached via a bayonet mount providing a sturdy connectionThe Flash bulb can be retracted using an eject button, and comes with a cover for times when not in use; the flash can also be adjusted to a variety of positions as the particular circumstances dictate.According to the instructions, it is compatible with most commercially available wireless trigger, permitting TTL use, but I did not test this. I imagine it would work quite well. The unit can also be used manually or automatically, and the software can compensate for external accessories (diffusers or other modifiers) attached to the flash, making it quite versatile. Finally, the battery is easily rechargeable using the cord provided and provides for long life and rapid flash recycling, increasing the versatility of this unit. For taking photos, it appears to function quite well and is a useful addition to my gadget bag.
