It works as it should although couldn't really find a good video of how to. So I pushed till the resistance seemed the same, that is to say the belt won't move anymore and only the plunger would. At that point I'd make sure that the deflection was at whatever spec it called for. Confusing...I know....

I bought my first belt drive motorcycle. I got a flat and had to change my rear tire. belts are less forgiving than chains to adjust. This tool can save you thousands of dollars in motor damage if you eyeball adjust and ride around with your belt to tight. If you can hear the belt its to tight! Do it right and faster with this tool because it takes out the guess work. Fine product, well made, and it will last a long time. Motion Pro makes great quality tools.

The cheap sticker on the rod that you're supposed to be able to set the ring to? It began peeling off the very first time I compressed it. Before I even got to try it out on the bike. What a stupid design - putting a sticker on a rod that will be sliding into a hole with a relatively close tolerance. Stupid.Do yourself a favor if you buy this - remove the little black "bumper" on the end and wrap some electrical tape around the rod, with the edge of the tape aligned with the mark on the rod. Reinstall the bumper and you're good to go. Now you compress the rod until it gets to the tape edge instead of the little black ring. You can toss the little black ring, you don't need it.

I have bought other Motion Pro products and they have all been outstanding. This Belt tension gauge is another great product and a Great price too! I use this belt guide for my Yamaha Road Star and she is fit as a fiddle, The belt tension is vital to a good safe ride, Yamaha wanted $ 67.00 + shipping and motion pro does the job as good for $ 21.00. You be the Judge. The gauge is good quality and measures the belt tension in a snap!
