I ordered this Karvinger Visual Fault Locator after needing to do some fiber optic testing. The rechargeable battery system is a standout feature - I hate having to put in new batteries in electronics. The 30mW power provides excellent visibility for locating breaks and bad connections in fiber lines. The red light clearly shows through constraints and bends up to impressive distances. The aluminum housing has proven durable during field use, and the included FC to LC adapter saves having to purchase additional accessories. The protective carbon fiber case keeps everything organized and protected between jobs. For anyone working with fiber optic installations, this VFL tester simplifies troubleshooting and increases efficiency on site.

The Karvinger fiber optic pen is a reliable tool for identifying faults in fiber installations. It effectively locates issues like breaks, bad connections, or macro bends, and the visible light reflection feature makes pinpointing defects straightforward. The "no battery worries" design is a bonusit’s always ready to go when you need it! While it’s not the most compact or user-friendly tool out there, it still gets the job done without much hassle. It’s a solid option for basic troubleshooting, offering good functionality and performance overall. If you’re in need of a dependable fiber optic tool, this one delivers!

Really choice product here. The case it comes in is pretty study. It’s a bit harder and not just the cheap cordura-like bags. The foam protector is stuck in place so it won’t float around with repeated use anytime soon. The tool itself has a dust cover over the charging port that is permanently attached and actually goes back in when done. Charging is USB C. The dust cover for the laser is durable and rubbery and is well attached to the pen. One button press turns on the steady light, second button press gives you pulse light. The additional items are great and pack away in the bag’s zipper area. Also included is a wrist lanyard which I haven’t attached but seems pretty comfortable. Unlike others which are just as string or ribbon this is slightly stretchable soft material. The light functions as intended and works well. The tool is pretty lightweight as well but nothing here feels cheap. With the full kit you get and excellent cart case you can’t go wrong. If you’re looking for a VFL give this a strong consideration. You can toss it in your bag or tool kit with ease.

The threads on the end battery housing are really bad. Very rough, scratchy and very hard to turn. They will not last. It leaves metal chunks laying on the desk. The thread-on optical fitting is loose and access is blocked by the metal housing.Somehow they found the smallest rated 18650 cell rated at 1200mAH.That's 30-40% of the normal capacity and I've never seen one that low. It's like a $1 dollar store metal flashlight with a red laser on the end.It has one good point, the zipper on the case operates fine.

This tester is very bright and comes with a SC to LC adaptor. The case is really nice and has a place to hold the charger and adaptor. If you work with fiber this is a must have, and I love that it is rechargeable, and I don't have to keep replacing batteries.

If you're one of the few people who needs a VFL like myself, you may have tried one of the endless clone 30mW lasers on Amazon. This is in a league of its own, and breaks from the clones in the best ways. It is sturdy, for starters, and it can balance on its "foot" if need be. The USB-C charging is a great feature, and allows the unit to never need unscrewing. The dust cap on a leash is much more reliable than a flimsy flip cap that'll fail you. But the best feature is the button. I've run through so many clones and the switch would always slip or get stuck. The button is crisp, there's no accidentally pressing it. Turn it on, it stays on. Lastly, it is BRIGHT. I actually believe the mW claim on this one. If you're in the market for a VFL, get this one.
