I was super excited to get this and set it up in my office. When I went to open the box from the manufacturer, I noticed it had been previously opened. I was even more disappointed when I noticed the bottom had a large crack. Thankfully I was able to patch it with a glue. I’m happy about the tank but disappointed that I paid this much for broken product. I think I’ll stick to glass in the future

Tank came with a crack in it. Missed the return window due to this being purchased as a gift and did not check it (that’s on me). This may very well be a good product, but will never know. Box came in great condition so does not look to be damaged by shipper.

I first bought this tank at a fish store (Petco) over a year ago now. We use it to house a single male betta in a small apartment downtown. I was afraid of ordering our second tank online due to the potential for cracks and the like during transit. However, we were pleasantly surprised when the tank arrived in-tact and for less than half what we paid at the store over a year ago. Ok, enough background on to the review:Pros:- Modern/Sophisticated look (especially with the LED lamp turned on)- Includes Filter/Lamp- Durable (keep in mind, it is plastic, so you must handle it with care when changing the water)- With a few plants/decorations, current isn't too strong for a betta (even for fancy bettas, I have a Halfmoon)- PriceCons:- Pump on the filter is not great. Even with proper maintenance, the filter loses power over awhile and should be replaced yearly- Small size = more water changes and maintenance- Plastic (since it is plastic, water buildup will accumulate which is not easy to remove without damaging the material)Overall:This is a great little starter tank for anyone looking to keep a betta. I live in a very small studio downtown, so space is at a premium. The tank fits nicely on my bar counter, which connects the kitchen and living room. Overall, its a great tank. If you are going to keep you betta, having a filter is a must. That being the said, the filter on this unit is OK, not great. However, it is the best setup you can find for under 3 gallons. Because I keep a fancy betta who requires above average water conditions, I still perform partial water changes every 3-4 days and full water changes every 2 weeks. The filters last about 2 weeks, and at 3 weeks are essentially doing nothing. Also, the cover on top has great cut outs for feeding and cables. This unit does NOT come with a heater and you will need to purchase a small one for bettas or other tropical fish.

I started housing my betta fish in this tank. Since then, I've upgraded my bettas to 2.5 gallon tanks. The kit includes an in-tank filter, one filter cartridge, an electric adapter, LED lights, and no plastic plants (even though Amazon's description says that it includes plants). As you can see in older reviews and uploaded pictures, the older model did include plants and had storage compartment at the bottom, but the newer model that Amazon's selling does not have these. Also, it doesn't come with water conditioner, gravel, or food. You can adjust the LED light crane up or down to illuminate the tank however you want. But don't adjust the crane's height too often as you'll wear out the hinges to keep it at a certain position and over time, the light crane will automatically slide down. The filter keeps the water cleaner so you don't have to change the water as often since experts recommend changing water at least once a week for a one-gallon tank for bettas. It can be easily attached anywhere on the tank by the two suction cups on its back. For aesthetic purposes, I'd recommend placing it on the back wall of the tank along with the crane. The top clear lid of the tank reduce water evaporation and has a large hole for easy feeding and handling. This tank is big enough to add a small heater along with your filter if you'd like. The filter does take up quite some space in the tank, so adding a heater makes your tank looks a little more crowded, but it's good for your betta since normal room temperature is around 72 degrees F, which is a little cold for tropical fish like bettas. The filter creates a fairly strong current which bettas don't like since they prefer still water, but you can reduce the current by raising the filter a little above the water level or add more plants and decoration in the tank.Overall, it was a great starter-kit tank for small fish and bettas, and for $20 you wouldn't find a better bang for your buck. However, you should consider the costs of replacing the filter cartriges. Amazon also sells Tetra's filter cartridges with each costing around $3. You need to replace the cartridge for this tank at least once a month, depending how often you change the water during that month. Changing water often prolongs the lifetime of filter cartridge.Again, consider that additional costs. Hope this helps.

I've never owned any fish in my life because I am always concerned about the amount of work I need to do to maintain a tank. When I finally decided that I wanted a fish, I researched and found that betta fish can be a great starter fish because it requires least efforts. So I got this 1.5 gallon tank, which, according to most online reviews, is the minimum size requirement for a betta. I was a little worried because it only got 3.5 stars, but I think it has all the components that I need: filter, LED light, flat tank surface (for minimum view distortion) and style. I am so glad I got this. It's been a month and my betta is very happy in it, which in turn has made me really happy. I bought so many accessories (gravel, decorations, exercise equipment, assorted food varieties, toys, heater, live plants, thermometer, etc.) since I got my betta (so much for the minimum efforts LOL). I can see myself upgrade this 1.5 gallon tank to a 3 gallon tank in a couple of months and will get an even bigger one after I get more used to the cleaning and water changing routine. The only two negative things I can come up with regarding this tank is that the acrylic surface is easily scratched and the filter is a little strong for this small tank. But both of them can be remedied. To avoid scratches, you need to be careful not to clean the tank with abrasive sponges. I scratched my tank a little because when I gave the tank a sponge bath, didn't notice a small gravel was caught in between my sponge and the tank surface and I ended up creating a long scratches along the front (but it's ok. I am going to upgrade to a 3 gallon one soon). To reduce the strong current produced from the filter, I can always purchase another filter (there are plenty of recommendations of filter for small tanks on Amazon).I highly recommend this tank!
