I got this to use with a MacBook Air and Chromebook to be able to connect those laptops to an older projector that uses a VGA port. Worked perfectly out of the box. No problems displaying to the projector from either device.

I need multiple monitors in my second home office but don't want to buy more than I already bought for my primary home office. So I got one from my dad's basement, which is very old with the VGA cord. There are no VGA outlets on modern laptops. So I found this connector, and it works perfectly to plug into my laptop USB-C. I sort of wish it had a regular USB and not USB-C, as those are more prevalent, but I can't be too picky with using old monitors.
