I purchased this model in 2011, so this has been out for years. I loved it, never had any problems. until Canon stopped making drivers for this model which forced me to buy a new one even tho this is still in excellent condition. I spoke with a rep at canon who said "every company stops making drivers at some point" which sounds like a justification that is a rip off for customers. Be careful on Amazon where many items are out dated and no longer supported with drivers or software updates.

I am terribly disappointed with this purchase. It clearly displays the slide and film trays but neither was delivered with the scanner. I’m returning this product. I cannot spend additional funds to run and locate/order the missing components. It was purchased specifically to scan old slides and film.

I bought this almost 10 years ago. I used it for scanning nearly ten thousand 35 mm negatives and slides, that I had been saving for the past fifty years. Also for scanning several thousand photos. It is still working fine. Once its power supply died, that I replaced. The scanned images are very lively, and I am very grateful to the Canon technologists for making such an useful product. My scanned images are all praised by my friends and relatives.

Delivered without the 35mm film frame which is a shame because I ordered this specifically to scan film so functionally, it’s useless. Also didn’t have usb cable which is easier to replace. Still quite irritating.

When these work they are great. I used one for 2 years or so then it began thrashing around on start up and slamming. It was never moved after installation. Then communication errors. I thought I just got a lemon and liked it so much I bought another. Two years later its exactly the same story. From the reviews few folks report problems but I end up with two bad ones? What are the odds?

As of March 11, 2015, this scanner will only scan one image every 90 seconds, due to a problem between their software and Mac OS X Yosemite. It is my understanding that this problem applies to all Canon scanners. Canon support is normally very responsive, but they say they can't tell me when or if there will be a fix to this problem.

I bought this scanner about 2.5 years ago to scan nearly 800 slides accumulated in my family for years. Initially, I was a bit skeptical if such inexpensive scanner (it cost one hundred dollars then) would do the job. It did, and I'm very happy with the quality of the output and the ease of operation. I still use it now and then for scanning photos and documents, and it works just fine with my Mac (OS X).

The scanner works well for scanning my 35mm slides. My only complaint is that I can't get the software to work on my Windows 8 computer, even though the software is designated Windows 8. The Windows 7 software works beautifully, though, on my Windows 7 laptop. I'm so pleased to have my slides viewable again. It does take a while to scan - 4 slides take about 3 or 4 minutes, but I'm happy to spend my time scanning. I'll try monkeying around with the Windows 8 software and see if I can get it to work, too.

Very easy to set up, simple to understand operation, outcome very satisfactory. Much simpler to drop slides in tray than load a tray. How many one scans is totally up to the operator, this part can be slow if you are making files as you go a long, but I found this to be the way to go. I created one quick find folder then broke down the categories in it. I recommend this unit, does the job you want for the price, a fair deal and being a scanner is useful all around.

If you're looking to scan film/slides be sure to use the scanner driver rather than just letting it scan . Opens up lots of settings for adjusting brightness, fixing back-light issues, colour correction and such...but the learning curve is a little steep - you might have a few 'do-overs' . The results are worth the effort, though. Be aware that you're looking at ~5 minutes per frame which seems to be typical for all scanner of this type, but means you could have a large time investment ahead of you.Document scanning seems to work quite nicely, too. Haven't played with all the front cover buttons yet, but the 'copy' button work really nice to give you a copy of a document. Fires up the scanner app and then directs the output to your default printer.Still have to play with film scanning, but from what I've seen with scanning slides, I think this thing is good value for the price.Almost forgot....hit Canon's site and d/l the current driver and app packages

It's a shame that the driver was not compatible for windows 7, I tried it on 3 different computers. It all resulted in driver wasn't installed correctly. I look through various posts on the internet for help, hoping something might help, nothing. It seemed other people had the same problem. I heard good things about it, too bad it didn't work out. I haven't tried it on a MAC, maybe it will work.Good luck.Amazon is awesome and kindly refunded my purchase so 5 stars to them.

I managed to scan about 14 documents every 10 minutes using this scanner. That's using all default settings, 300 dpi. I haven't tried it with photos or film yet, but from various reviews I know those would require higher dpi and take longer. Anyway, for documents, this device does a good job and it's fast enough. Well worth the price.I used it with Windows XP SP3. I installed only the scanner driver and MP Navigator. Looking in Task Manager I don't see any bloatware from Canon running pointlessly while I'm not using the scanner. Kudos to Canon for that.
