I will make a crockpot of food and then freeze portions because it's just me and I don't want to eat the same thing for a whole week. I have several different meals in the freezer this way. This time, I made a sort of taco corn chili chowder? One of those times you toss stuff in and see what shakes out. Pretty good, actually!I made so much that it was more than this pair could handle, so I did use two of my mini bundt cake molds I've been using before these. I was surprised that they do fit in the freezer bags easier, but I think the bundt cake molds are slightly bigger. I think having a cup is a good portion size and would help with stuff like keeping the turkey drippings and knowing you have a cup of it if you fill it up. We've started keeping the drippings from turkeys, hams and even when slow cooking pork or beef for shredding -- that stuff is great for making rice later. The lid is great because if I forget to put them in freezer bags right away, I don't want them getting icy on top. The steel frame is a winner. I was spilling stuff just picking up soft silicone molds (like with soups), then bringing them to the freezer...drips everywhere. The steel frame stops that entirely, and with the lid, they become stackable even in the freezer, which saves space while freezing. I would imagine it would also help prevent spills if you rummage around your freezer before they're frozen, but I didn't do that. The bendy pop-up part is nice. It can be a struggle to get the frozen stuff out of the other molds, so this pop up made it pretty easy (see picture). The only down side I see is that those bendy joint parts are thinner silicone, and I think they'd fail first. I put light behind it to show those parts. I've only used the pair and washed them once, so only time will tell how long they actually last, but considering this is a thing I'll use constantly, I hope it lasts a while. If it does, I think it's worth the price tag. I think it's on par with other silicone molds, and these ones solved a couple issues I was already dealing with.

What I like:--Each mold holds 1 cup, which is a good portion size for the soups that I freeze, there are also lines at a quarter cup and half a cup, which is useful.--The molds are collapsible, so they take up less space when not in use.--There is a rigid frame around the top of the molds so the unit isn't floppy.--When the molds are expanded, they seem pretty sturdy and free-standing (they're not going to collapse on their own)--It's really easy to pop the frozen food out of the molds, and my soup takes up much less space this way than it did when I used individual containers. What I don't like:--The molds are not square--they are graduated. I mean, they can't be square if they're going to be collapsible, but I didn't think about that before ordering, and I would prefer that my blocks of frozen food be square (or rectangular) so they take up the least possible amount of space in storage.--The tops are not rigid. I would like to be able to stack these in the freezer, but I'm not sure if the flexible tops will allow for this.--The tongs. Why? I don't really understand why these are included. They're definitely not large enough to use with food that's been frozen in these trays. They edges of the tongs are pretty sharp and a little rough, too, so these are going right in the trash.
